Every customer enquiry tells a story.
Over a three-month period, Southport Bowls Club received 132 customer conversations through its website. While many began with simple questions, together they provided valuable insight into how visitors interact with modern club websites and, more importantly, what information they’re looking for. The findings were revealing.
Many clubs invest significant time promoting their facilities, events and services, yet most visitors arrive with one simple goal: to find an answer quickly. Some wanted to know when the bistro was open. Others were looking for information about barefoot bowls, membership, live entertainment or function bookings. They weren’t browsing for inspiration. They were looking for answers that would help them decide what to do next.
These aren’t complex questions, but they’re often the difference between a visitor continuing their journey or leaving the website altogether. The conversations also highlighted a broader shift in customer expectations.
People increasingly expect websites to behave less like digital brochures and more like conversations. Rather than navigating multiple pages or searching through menus, they simply want to ask a question and receive an immediate answer. It’s the same behaviour people now expect when shopping online, booking accommodation or researching restaurants. Clubs are no different. For club managers, this presents an opportunity.
Understanding the questions visitors ask most frequently can help improve website navigation, identify information that’s difficult to find and highlight opportunities to provide a better customer experience. The value isn’t simply in answering questions.
It’s in learning what customers are actually trying to achieve when they visit your website. Because every conversation offers another insight into how your club can better serve its members, visitors and future customers.
